MINIATURE MODEL

Butake chair

When someone updates a classic, there’s bound to be quite a bit of scrutiny. Raul Tellez Herrera went into his modernizing of the Butaque with no fear, and his design is a bold reflection of that attitude.
The Butaque chair has a history in Mexico, the United States, the Caribbean, and other countries in this region. With an exotic design featuring an angled wood frame and leather seat, the Butaque was famous for being perfect for lounging in a tropical climate. Raul Tellez Herrera, of the architectural firm Arquiteknia, decided to redesign the regional classic and bring it to the modern age with the Butake Chair.
Using a metal frame hidden in banak, the chair appears to be made entirely of wood. While retaining an angular posture, the way it is shaped is totally modern. It looks as if rectangular sections of wood of various lengths decided to combine into what appears to be an asymmetrical shape that provides an ideal reclining position. The result is a chair that not only provides a great seat to relax in, but also an instant conversation starter. So if you want a chair that lets you lounge while also showing off your artistic taste in furniture, pick one up and take a seat in the Butake chair.
